Forum plugins that store every topic and reply in wp_posts share one table with your pages, products and revisions. Jetonomy keeps the community in tables designed for it.

Counts are stored, not recounted
Reply and member totals are kept on the row, so a busy space list does not run a count query per item.

Every account starts on a short leash and gains abilities by taking part. People who have been around for months can tidy topics. You hand real moderation powers only to the members you choose.

Before you install

Is the free plugin a trial, or will features move to Pro later?
It is not a trial. Forums, Q&A, ideas and feed spaces, trust levels, moderation, search, the importers and the REST API are all in the free plugin, with no licence key and no site limit. Pro adds separate extensions such as private messaging, analytics and webhooks.
How is this different from bbPress?
bbPress keeps forum content in wp_posts and wp_postmeta alongside your pages. Jetonomy stores the community in 22 tables of its own, with stored counters and indexes built for forum lists. It also adds Q&A with accepted answers, idea boards, trust levels and a REST API, which bbPress does not include.
How is this different from wpForo?
wpForo also uses its own tables, so both avoid wp_posts. The difference is how the community runs: Jetonomy promotes members through six trust levels, lets a space have its own moderators, and exposes the whole community over a REST API and WP-CLI.
Can I move my existing forum over?
Yes. Jetonomy imports from bbPress, wpForo and Asgaros Forum, including topics, replies and attachments. Imports run in batches with a progress bar, and if you close the tab the import pauses and resumes from the last finished batch. For bbPress you can run wp jetonomy import bbpress --dry-run first to see the counts without writing anything. Old forum URLs are not redirected automatically, so plan redirects for pages that rank.
Will it match my theme?
Jetonomy's design tokens read your theme's fonts and brand colour, including theme.json presets, so the community picks up your site's look. Every template can also be overridden by copying it into your-theme/jetonomy/.
How does Jetonomy deal with spam?
New accounts start at trust level 0 with posting rate limits and no media uploads. You can add reCAPTCHA v3 or Cloudflare Turnstile to forms, Akismet checks new posts and replies when it is active, and member flags feed one moderation queue. Pro adds AI-based spam detection.
What are the requirements?
WordPress 6.7 or later and PHP 8.1 or later. It runs on shared hosting, managed WordPress hosting and VPS servers, with no external service. Redis or Memcached is used automatically when your host provides one.
What happens to my data if I remove Jetonomy?
Your community lives in your own WordPress database. Jetonomy registers with the WordPress personal data export and erase tools, and deleting the plugin from the Plugins screen drops its tables and settings, so export anything you want to keep first.
